A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection anywhere in the urinary system, most commonly affecting the bladder. They are particularly common in women and can cause significant discomfort. Many UTIs will resolve on their own, but antibiotic treatment often speeds up recovery and reduces the risk of the infection spreading to the kidneys.
Under the NHS Pharmacy First service, our pharmacist can assess your symptoms in a private consultation and supply antibiotics on the spot where clinically appropriate, without a GP appointment. This service is available to women aged 16 to 64 years.

Symptoms we can treat
- Burning or stinging sensation when passing urine
- Needing to urinate more often than usual, including at night
- A sudden strong urge to pass urine
- Urine that appears cloudy, dark, or has an unusual smell
- Aching or discomfort in the lower abdomen
What to expect at your appointment
- A brief private clinical assessment of your symptoms.
- Decision based on the assessment: self care advice, or antibiotics if clinically indicated.
- Treatment supplied on the spot under Patient Group Direction if needed.
- Advice on preventing future infections and when to seek further help.
